A group of high school singers, a loose band of World War II soldiers and a talk show that no longer exists were among the biggest winners of this year's Emmy nominations. 'Glee,' the FOX musical-comedy about spunky teens, raked in 19 bids, including best comedy series and acting nods for stars Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer. HBO's war drama 'The Pacific' leads all nominees with an astounding 24 nominations, despite mixed reviews for the series.
NBC fared well as usual. '30 Rock' and its stars, Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey and Jane Krakowski, received their annual nods. Fey will face off with real-life friend Amy Poehler, who was picked for 'Parks and Recreation.' But the big surprise -- one that will certainly cause some tension at NBC -- was the nod to 'The Tonight Show' starring Conan O'Brien, not Jay Leno.
ABC's 'Modern Family' was another big success story, with nominations for best comedy series as well as three picks for outstanding supporting actor (Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Ty Burrell) and two for supporting actress (Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara).
Emmy night is August 29.
